• Find a commercially available packaged product intended for off-the-shelf consumer purchase and "fix" the label - make it better!
• Sketch your Ideas - Draw at least two sides of the package, including space for the ingredients and/or bar codes.
• Write a brief paragraph explaining why your ideas will be an improvement.
Requirements:
1) Find a product Label that needs help:
• Find Your Own Example of a Bad Label of a school-appropriate product or use one of these commercially available packaged products intended for off-the-shelf consumer purchase and "fix" the label - make it better!
• Beware of Famous Brands! Do not pick very popular products like Coca-Cola because they will be hard to improve upon. Find an off-brand obscure package label where you can make a big difference.
• Sketch your Ideas - Draw two sides of the package for full credit, including space for the ingredients and/or bar codes.
Write a Paragraph:
2) Paragraph supporting your new design and include it with your concept drawing.
• Explain why you are making the changes.
• Consider the following in your Paragraph and Revision:
- Shelf Appeal - Can you make the label more eye catching for shoppers?
- Does it "fit"? - Does the label attract the target audience?
- Is the Text Readable? - How do you make Text Stand OUT?
- Would you buy it? - Based only on the label, would you buy it?
• Put the Original Label, your Sketched Improvement, and your Critical Paragraph together on a single document and email or attach it to the instructor's database, as in this example.
• Your Product package must include all the stuff you normally find on a label: Ingredients, company name, graphics, even the bar code.
• Put the original together with your sketch on the same document.
Final Rendering:
3) Based on your computer skills, feedback from students, teachers, and your own creativity, render your final label design.

• Your Product package must include all the stuff you normally find on a label: Ingredients, company name, graphics, even the bar code.

• Make sure fonts will be viewable by creating Outlines.

• Put the original together with your sketch on the same document.

Remember:
• ALWAYS save your projects using the following naming convention:
LASTNAME-FIRSTNAME-PROJECTNAME
• DO NOT name your project any other way - Improperly named projects will not receive credit and you will be sad.
• NEVER leave your work on the desktop or depend on a flash drive - instead, save your work in a folder you can find later - preferably on a virtual drive where it can be backed up.
• REMEMBER to Embed Images and Create Outlines on your text.
