The Project Happens in 3 Parts:

Part #1: Sketch Your Layout ~

Design Always Begins with Paper and Pencil!

  •   Sketch several examples of your ideas on the CD Graphic Organizer or the DVD Graphic Organizer with colored pencils - both front and back.

  •   Text, titles and ratings must be included.

  •   The "spine" and "sides" must also be incorporated into your design.

The CD should include room for song tittles or a description of the movie or software title. Remember, you're trying to sell the product. Check out commercial CDs and DVD's to see how they are marketed. Do not use Photos except as reference material.

  •   The new design must use both text and image done in Illustrator shoe drawing example(a single colored shape, such as a background from the web, does not constitute an image … must be more complex).

  •   Final design must be rendered totally in Illustrator (no bitmap images/pictures).

  •   The new design will be judged on how well it reflects the nature of the subject. You can view examples but you must come up with your own personal interpretation of the new visual design.

  •   The design must be vector and scalable … that means the fine details will show when printed.

Part #2: Move to the Computer ~

cd sketch exampleScan your Sketch into the Computer

  •   Scan your drawing and open it.

  •   Or, you can go to Google Images and find things that resemble your prototype drawings, whatever you need - get it.

  •   Then begin outlining everything with the tools that you will be introduced to during the course of this project.

Last Part: The Final Product ~

Render your Images with Sofware

  •   All of your work must be an original creation!

  •   Yes, you can trace copied images from the internet but the end result must be modified by at least 90%, meaning that the color, size and name should be changed to be unrecognizable from the original content.

  •   Present your work to the class!

    •     ALWAYS save your projects using the following naming convention:
FIRST_NAME_LAST_NAME_PROJECT_NAME

    •     DO NOT name your project any other way - Improperly named projects will not receive credit and you will be sad.

    •     NEVER leave your work on the desktop or depend on a flash drive - instead, save your work in a folder you can find later - preferably on a virtual drive where it can be backed up.
