Renaissance Collage Project
• Students research an artist or a particular piece of artwork from the Renaissance, then construct a collage of images in Photoshop representing what they've learned.
• The themes of this project are Unity, Balance and Shape. When an artist attempts to group many disparate images together - like in a collage - the challenge is to balance that potential chaos with visual order.
• One way to reduce confusion is by surrounding a collage with a frame of some sort, thus uniting the composition and providing a convenient introduction to the principle.
• It's a similar story with balance. It is very easy to see how a completed composition gets "weighted" by imagery size and darkness.
• Also, Triangle and square shapes help focus the eye.
