Summary:

Sketch yourself using the "Upside Down" technique.

    ●  Scan your drawing into the computer as a foundation.

    ●  Use Photoshop to darken lines, remove clutter, and paint your self-portrait.

Learn About:

Burn & Dodge Tools Pen Tool Brush Tool Paint Bucket Crop Tool

The Project Happens in 3 Parts:

Part #1: Draw Yourself!

Grab Paper and Pencil …

  •   Create your self-portrait using your own hand-drawn image.

  •   Then in Photoshop - darken the lines, remove the clutter, add colors and backgrounds to artistically represent yourself.

  •   Finally - put it on the “Homepage” of your Professional Portfolio.

  •   Keep it Positive & Professional!

1) Find a Picture of Your Face and Open it in PhotoShop

2) Flip it "Upside Down" according to Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain

… and Change it to Grayscale.

  •   Why Does This Work?

  •   You have a Left and Right brain …

  •   Drawing upside down helps you turn off the rational side of the brain …

  •   You draw what you see - not what you think!

Part #2: Move to the Computer ~

  •   Then begin outlining your work with the Photoshop tools that you will be introduced to during the course of this project, such as:

Last Part: The Final Product ~

Present your work to the class!

    •     ALWAYS save your projects using the following naming convention:
FIRST_NAME_LAST_NAME_PROJECT_NAME

    •     DO NOT name your project any other way - Improperly named projects will not receive credit and you will be sad.

    •     NEVER leave your work on the desktop or depend on a flash drive - instead, save your work in a folder you can find later - preferably on a virtual drive where it can be backed up.
