Step #1: Open a New Document in Photoshop ~

Open Photoshop & create a new canvas. Hit Cmd (⌘) + N cmd key + n key or go to: File » New

… and select inches.

Make your canvas 8.5 x 11 inches and Resolution to AT LEAST 150.

It's a good idea to choose Transparent in the Background Contents too.

Step #2: Make a Rose Shape ~

Click the Pen Tool or hit the keyboard shortcut letter (p) …

… create a shape like a rose petal.


Step #3: Make Selection ~

Then Right-click & hit Make Selection …

… hit New Selection and click OK.

Hopefully you get something like this:


Step #4: Color ~

Select the color of your choice - this is F7D11F.

Fill the selection with the Paint Bucket or hit: Alt (⌥)+Delete +

Hit the keyboard shortcut: Cmd(⌘)+D to deselct the marching ants.


Step #5: Burn ~

Using the Pen Tool draw a circle like this:

Next, get the Burn Tool or hit the shortcut letter (O)

… swap the range from Shadows to Midtones to Highlights until you find what works.

… and try turning off Protect Tones.

Try a large grungy brush …

… also raise the Exposure as needed …

… and burn burn burn! Burn around the edges to add the illusion of depth.

The more you burn the darker it gets!


Step #6: Select the Inverse ~

Now go to: Select > Inverse

… or hit the keyboard shortcut: Cmd(⌘)+Shift(⇧)+i …

… and Burn the other side too.


Step #7: Dodge Tool ~

Now select the Dodge Tool

… the Dodge Tool makes things lighter.


Step #8: Stem ~

Make a New Layer - call it stem - & create the following selection with the help of Pen Tool

… and fill the selection with green - try #548E1C but use any color you want - & Burn & Dodge it to your liking.


Step #9: Leaves ~

Now make a New Layer & then create a leaf shape with the Pen Tool:

 

 

 

 

Fill the selection with color and shade with the Burn & Dodge Tools.

Step #10: Add Text ~

Select the Text Tool or just hit the letter "t" …

… type something like Happy Valentines day! !

Step #11: Layers Style …

Then go to: Layer > Layer Style > Outer Glow

Raise the size and spread of the glow so you can see the text clearly …


Step #12: Bevel and Emboss …

Next, add Bevel and Emboss

Again, adjust the settings to make your text contrast against the background …


Step #13: Drop Shadow …

Add a little Drop Shadow

… adjust the angle of the shadow …

… and lastly, add Stroke - adjust the width …

The goal is to make the text contrast against the background …


Last Step: Save and Attach ~

Go to: File » Save as … and save your work as a .psd

Attach it!


  •   ALWAYS save your projects like this:
FIRST_NAME_LAST_NAME_PROJECT_NAME

 

  •   DO NOT name your project any other way - Improperly named projects will not receive credit and you will be sad.

 

  •   NEVER leave your work on the desktop or depend on a flash drive - instead, save your work in a folder you can find later - preferably on a virtual drive where it can be backed up.
